PUBLIC EDUCATION
Waste Reduction Week
Waste Reduction Week in Canada is a time to educate Canadians about environmental issues across the nation. Every year during the third week of October MMSB partners with Waste Reduction Week Canada to raise awareness and encourage individuals, schools, and communities to take responsibility for our wasteful actions that affect the environment. MMSB aims toinspire Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to rethink their habits and focus on developing new waste reduction habits.
THE BIG GREEN UP
In recognition of Waste Reduction Week in Canada (October 15-21) and the need to reduce waste, MMSB is designating Thursday, October 18 as the Big Green Up. This is a one-day challenge for everyone in the province to actively generate less waste.
Waste Reduction Week is an important time for businesses, communities and individuals to consider how they can reduce waste in Newfoundland and Labrador. MMSB will be visiting schools, businesses and community groups throughout the province to talk about the simple actions we can take to fight waste. RECYCLE MY CELL SCHOOL CHALLENGE
Once again this year, MMSB is partnering with Waste Reduction Week in Canada and national sponsors, The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), to launch the Recycle My Cell School Challenge. The challenge, open to all K-12 and post-secondary schools throughout the province, kicks off on day one of Waste Reduction Week and runs from Oct. 15 - Nov. 15, 2012.
Last year we were blown away by the results from our province. Newfoundland and Labrador schools stepped up to the challenge and dominated the national competition with 55 schools and 9 post-secondary institutions recycling more than 3,900 cell phones! CLICK HERE for complete details!
